Terms of use
Last updated 28 September 2026
qb2pdf (“qb2pdf”, “we”, “us”) is a set of free tools at qb2pdf.com that let you watermark, sign, password-protect, seal, verify, inspect, compress and remove hidden information from PDF files in your web browser (the “Service”). By using the Service you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use it. We’ve written them in plain language, but they are still a binding agreement.
1. Not legal advice, and not a certified e-signature service
We are not a law firm and nothing on this site is legal advice. qb2pdf is a document-protection tool. It is not a certified or qualified electronic-signature provider, a notary, or a timestamping authority, and its signatures are not certificate-based signatures recognised by Adobe Acrobat or similar software.
Whether a document signed or sealed with qb2pdf is legally valid or enforceable depends on where you are, the type of document and what the other parties agree to. Some documents, such as wills, deeds, notarised statements, court filings and certain government forms, may need a specific signing method, witnesses or a notary. If it matters, check with a lawyer before relying on qb2pdf.
2. What the tools can and can’t do
- Seals show that a file hasn’t changed since it was sealed with a particular signing key. They do not prove who a person is in real life. Names are typed in by users and we don’t check anyone’s identity. Always confirm a signer’s ID with them directly.
- Watermarks discourage copying and help show ownership, but they can’t stop a determined person from copying, cropping or removing them. They don’t guarantee protection of your copyright.
- Printing and copying restrictions on locked PDFs are respected by most PDF readers, but some software ignores them.
- QR codes can be copied onto other documents. A QR code by itself doesn’t prove a document is genuine. Verifying the actual file does.
- A sealed file will show as changed if it is re-saved, edited, compressed or converted by other software, even if nothing visible changed.
- The inspector (“Was this PDF edited?”) reports technical traces found inside a file. Its results are clues, not proof. Honest edits leave the same traces as dishonest ones, and a forged document can have none at all. Don’t accuse anyone, reject a document or make a legal, financial or employment decision based only on its results.
- Compressing lowers the quality of images in a PDF and can’t be undone on the output file. Check the result before you rely on it.
- Removing hidden info removes the kinds of hidden data listed on that page. It doesn’t black out anything visible on the pages, and it can’t guarantee that every trace of information is gone from every kind of PDF.
3. Your files, passwords and signing keys
- Your files are processed on your own device and are never sent to us. That means we can’t recover anything for you.
- If you forget the password to a PDF you locked, it cannot be opened, by you or by us. Always keep an unlocked copy of anything important.
- Your signing key is stored in your browser. Clearing your browser data, switching browsers or losing your device will delete it unless you have used Back up key. Anyone who gets your key backup file can create seals in your name, so keep it private. You are responsible for anything sealed with your key.
- qb2pdf always creates a new file and never changes your original, but keep your own backups. We are not responsible for lost, damaged or unreadable files.
4. Your responsibilities and acceptable use
You are responsible for the documents you process and how you use the results. You agree that you will only use the Service for lawful purposes, and that you will not use it to:
- sign a document in someone else’s name, or on behalf of a person or company, without their authority;
- forge, falsify or alter documents, or pass off a document as sealed or approved by someone who did not seal or approve it;
- commit fraud, deceive anyone, or mislead a court, government agency, employer, bank or other party;
- watermark, seal or claim ownership of content you don’t own or have the right to use, or otherwise infringe anyone’s copyright, trademark or other rights;
- process content that is illegal where you or the recipient are; or
- interfere with, overload, copy or attack the site, or try to make it harm other users.
You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service, and old enough to enter a binding agreement where you live. If you use it for a company, you confirm you are authorised to accept these terms for that company.
5. No warranty
The Service is provided free, “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, non-infringement, or that it will be uninterrupted, secure or error-free. We don’t promise that verification results, encryption or any output will be correct, compatible with every PDF reader, or suitable for your purpose. You use the Service at your own risk.
6. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, qb2pdf and the people who run it will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, files, profits, revenue, business or reputation, arising out of or related to your use of (or inability to use) the Service. This includes losses connected with a rejected, disputed or unenforceable document, a forgotten password, a lost signing key, or someone else’s misuse of a document.
Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service will not exceed US$50. Some places don’t allow certain limits on liability, so some of this section may not apply to you.
7. Indemnity
If someone makes a claim against us because of documents you processed, how you used the Service, or your breach of these terms or of the law, you agree to cover the reasonable costs and losses that result, including legal fees, to the extent permitted by law.
8. Third-party services and software
The site is hosted by Cloudflare and loads fonts from Google Fonts and open-source libraries from cdnjs. We don’t control those services and aren’t responsible for them. qb2pdf is built with open-source software, including pdf-lib (MIT licence), PDF.js (Apache 2.0), qrcode-generator (MIT) and JSZip (MIT). We thank their authors.
Adobe and Acrobat are trademarks of Adobe Inc. Other product names belong to their owners. qb2pdf is not affiliated with or endorsed by any of them.
9. Our content
The qb2pdf name, logo, site design and text belong to us. You may use the Service and the files it produces for any lawful purpose. You may not copy the site to offer a competing service or present it as your own.
10. Changes and ending the Service
We may change, suspend or stop the Service, or update these terms, at any time. If we change the terms we’ll update the date at the top. Continuing to use the Service after a change means you accept the new terms. Files you have already downloaded are yours to keep.
11. General
If any part of these terms can’t be enforced, the rest still applies. If we don’t enforce a term straight away, we haven’t given up the right to do so later. These terms, together with our privacy policy, are the whole agreement between you and us about the Service.
12. Contact
